Jewelry is a luxury and can seem totally unnecessary, but jewelry, whatever the price is, becomes an instant keepsake. A reminder of where you bought it or who gave it to you and something that can be passed down through generations. Puvi jewelry tries to go a step further and provide jewelry with a purpose.
I started seriously thinking about a jewelry company after creating pieces for some of my favorite charities, including one close to my heart: Hands up for Haiti. This nonprofit was started by a good friend of mine Christine Caserta. When she asked me about a year ago to donate a piece for a fundraiser I jumped at the chance to help out. The amount raised was able to provide a hospital in Haiti with an ultrasound and an incubator. I though: this is awesome! Something I love to do can actually do some good in the world. That was the turning point and gave Puvi Jewelry the meaning and purpose I was looking for.
The turquoise gem necklace is worn by the model Joy Rudd. This piece was the jumping off point of my Summer 2012 line. The large African Turquoise stones embody the earthiness that Puvi Jewelry always tries to emulate. The piece is very simple in design with graduated stones accented with vermeil gold. I love jewelry that is bright and bold in color, giving the pieces a candy-like effect. My pieces are influenced by my travels around the world, especially to my family’s native Costa Rica. Being surrounded by nature, on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is where I truly feel at home. The rich vegetation of the rain forest, the deep blues of the ocean and the colorful shells found along the way are constantly inspiring me, even when I’m a world away in the Northeast.
